How much does it cost to replace glass in a window?

Is your glass damaged or broken? If the glass is just damaged, you may only need to have the pane replaced. Your price may also be affected by the type of glass you have. Types of glass include:
 

  • Insulated
  • Thermal
  • Plate/Flat
  • Double glazed
  • Tinted

This will require a Big Kev’s Glass glazier to assess the damage and measure up the window. They will then be able to give you an accurate quote regarding your particular situation.

Can I just replace the glass in my windows?

If damage is minimal and limited only to a single pane, then a replacement is possible. However, if there is significant damage to the entire window, including issues with the window seal, your best bet might be to remove and replace the whole window. This can save you money in the long run, especially if the window is over 15 years old. There are several options available for replacement glass but your window will perform at its best if the glass is of the same type.

Can window glass be repaired?

If there are only small cracks apparent in the glass, it is possible to have a professional service, like Big Kev’s Glass, to repair your glass. However, if the glass is broken into pieces, has cracks larger than an inch, or is a double-pane window with a whole that has penetrated both panes, you will require glass replacement. If the damage is limited to a single pane, then you may only need to replace that pane, rather than the whole window.

Is it cheaper to replace glass or the whole window?

If your window only has one single pane broken, it’s unlikely you need to replace the entire window. In fact, replacing the entire window could cost you up to more than 50% more than simply replacing a single pane.
